Man....Texas is a big state....that's all I have to say about that....
Besides being big, there is some pretty cool stuff out here...
Along the way, we saw some huge wind farms with turbines that stretched on for quite a ways...Alex got a little photo happy with it, but we will just include one of them.
We also drove through some pretty substantial sections of desert, some oil refineries, some farm land, and some other pretty cool stuff (although some of it was at night...there weren't any street lights, so I am sure we missed some things).
Well, when we got up this morning (we stayed in a rest area last night) we realized that we were a little low on gas. Gas stations were a little sparse on the highway we were travelling on, so we actually backtracked to New Mexico to find a gas station. We ended up in Carlsbad, New Mexico...home of the Carlsbad Caverns, a pretty substantial cave system (I am informed...by Alex...it is the largest in the Western Hemisphere). It s a bit of a tourist attraction, and out of character for us, but we paid the $6 each and did a self guided tour. Again, Alex went a bit photo happy, but we will only show you a few.
After that, we drove back over to Texas and continued out to the Tanks. We passed by the Guadalupe Mountain Range and that was pretty impressive as well.
When we got to the Rock Ranch (the campground we plan to stay at until Friday) we found out that the office doesn't open back up to admit campers until 6 PM (er...9 PM your time), so we are passing the time in a Starbucks in El Paso, writing this wonderful blog for you...
As always...Music:
The Doors - LA Woman (this was tough one for me...one of my favorite albums, but we were driving through Texas, and it seemed appropriate that we listen to The WASP - Texas Radio)
Rush - Hemispheres
The Grateful Dead - Greatest Hits
Alice in Chains - Black Gives Way to Blue
Coldplay - X&Y
The Deftones - Around the Fur
Stone Temple Pilots -Shangri la dee da (or something like that)
System of a Down - Steal This Album
Korn - Take a Look in the Mirror
Godhead - The Shadow Line
Jethro Tull - Warchild
Santana - Greatest Hits
Soundgarden - Ultramega OK
Well, tomorrow starts our climbing in Hueco Tanks....hope you are as excited as we are....talk to you soon.
The latest pictures are stunning! I love them, but I must admit my favorite is the "dangerous cliffs" sign. Have a great time in Texas and keep the pictures coming!
